AHEAD of the GAME

This campaign visualizes the interconnectivity of organized sporting with sustained head injuries. The objective is to provide audiences with the knowledge about the risks and dangers surrounding these events, as a means of understanding the accountability from organized sporting. Content intends to promote healthier practicing regimens, mindful sports conduct, and advocate safer equipment provisions. These measures will focus on preventative procedures from inherent physical sports-related head injuries, and long term neurological and mental health issues for players. Football will be the topic of discussion, focusing the attention on the politics within professional and armature settings, alongside the culminated head traumas attributed to the game. Mediums that will be exercised during the design curation are print, motion, and UI/UX designs.

A commemorative online gallery that highlights players within the NFL that have suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Each profile features the players accolades within there career, and discusses there battle with CTE. Users are able to digitally interact within the space to learn about the effects of CTE, and this campaign is intended to provide informed consent about the inherent dangers of playing football.

A public service announcement criticizing the National Football League’s ill response towards the connection of head injuries and playing football. Commentary is provided by former Pittsburg Steelers quarterback, Terry Bradshaw, discussing the lack of accountability within the NFL. Utilizing archived materials such as newspaper tabloids and videographies, are elements used to curate the motion work.

Kneeling For Freedom

The topic for the festival is to bring awareness on the stance of football players taking a knee during the National Anthem, as well as discuss the inequality among black citizens and police brutality the protest is trying to portray. This issue has been a divided topic, and I feel that providing context to what these players are trying to bring awareness to will assist in shifting the stigma behind the protest. Taking a knee is a form of peaceful protest, as well as freedom of assembly is a right provided through our Constitution that gives Americans the freedom to stand up for injustice, without fear of prosecution. The event is intended to show support of protesters, such as Colin Kaepernick, and convey what they protest, through works of film, art, music, and spoken word.

Macaroon Murder

French native Clémence Damour returns to Paris to run the family patisserie, a famous franchise known for their delectable gourmet pastries and sweets in Paris and around the world. To get off on the right foot with la gardienne, the caretaker of her apartment building, Clémence gives her a box of their luxury macarons. The next morning however, the half-eaten box of macarons is found near la gardienne’s dead body. An incompetent inspector accuses Clémence of being the killer, which prompts her to clear her name and solve the case herself.

By utilizing Josefin Sans (San Serif) and Garamond Pro (Old Style), the typographic application process combines the 15th-century with a contemporary typeface in order to conceptual integrate both families within the same gridding system.
